Boating, Water skiing, Fishing

Close by, Lake Ming is only 15 minutes away. Lake Ming is a thrill-seeker's paradise for waterskiing and motorboat racing. Over a half-mile long and nearly a half mile wide, Lake Ming offers more than 107 surface acres of boaters paradise. Facilities include a four lane boat launching ramp and boat docks.

About 45 minutes away is Lake Isabella, at an elevation of 2605 feet. The lake offers boating, fishing, water skiing, and bird watching. Three marinas and six boat ramps are located around the sparkling blue, 11,000 acre lake. During winter, skiers can enjoy downhill and cross country skiing in the area.

Buena Vista Aquatic Recreation about 25 minutes South of Bakersfield has two lakes. Lake Webb has eight miles of shoreline offering waterskiing, sailing, , fishing, and swimming. Lake Evans has over two miles of waterfront and is great for fishing, sailing and swimming as it has a 5MPH limit.

Biking

The Kern River bike path runs along the South side of the Kern River river bed from West of Cal State Bakersfield to Bakersfield College. That's about 8 miles for your biking pleasure.

Malls

Valley Plaza Center, about 7 miles from the park, is an indoor mall with 4 anchor stores including Sears, Macy's, JCPenney, Robinsons-May and 165 speciality stores and the Oasis food court.

East Hills Mall, about 3 miles from the park, is an indoor mall with about 50 speciality stores. Adjacent to the mall is Wal-Mart and Target. There is a movie theater in the mall.

Stockdale Fashion Plaza, about 8 miles from the park. The Stockdale Fashion Plaza offers a wide variety of specialty shops to suit your refined taste and complete your own particular style.

Bakersfield is known for it's Basque and Mexican food. We have many fine Basque and Mexican restaurants to choose from along with traditional American, Italian, Chinese and steak houses. We also have several fine buffet restaurants. Within about a mile of the park there's a Denny's Diner and Scotsman Restrauant, plus for fast food dining a McDonalds, Burger King, Taco Bell, Jack-In-The-Box, and Subway.

Tehachapi Train Loop

A World-Famous Railroad Construction Achievement of the 19th Century

The Techachapi Train Loop is 3,799' long, with a typical diameter of about 1210 feet. In addition to the loop, there are 18 tunnels with a total length of 8,240'. There are 8,300 degrees of rotation as the track twists and turns through and along the mountains. The total distance from Caliente to Tehachapi (summit) is about 16 miles.

Today the Tehachapi Loop (operated jointly by the Union Pacific and Santa Fe Railroads) is on the main artery joining the agricultural and petroleum products of the San Joaquin Valley to Arizona and east. As many as 40 freight trains a day execute the loop, making it the busiest single-track line in the United States.


The Techachapi Train Loop is located about 25 minutes east of the RV Park near Keene.

Mourning Cloak Ranch and Botanical Gardens

The Mourning Cloak Ranch and Botanical Gardens was founded over 30 years ago on the site of historical Williamsburg, the areas first settlement. Despite the difficult high altitude growing conditions, over 2600 species of plants thrive at Mourning Cloak, including about 500 species of California natives. Included are 300 varieties of Roses, 14 varieties of hardy Geraniums and 22 species of the genus Arctostaphylos or the Manzanita.


Mourning Cloak Ranch and Botanical Gardens is open for public tours by appointment. The tour season extends from May through November 1st, however tours may be arranged year round by appointment.


Mourning Cloak Ranch and Botanical Gardens is located 4 miles west of Tehachapi.
